A stretch of Lougheed Highway in Mission, B.C., was closed in both directions Thursday morning after a crash sent a woman to hospital with serious injuries, according to Mission RCMP.
Police say the crash occurred around 11:30 a.m. PT when a vehicle hydroplaned and collided with another car in the oncoming lane. Initial investigations suggest heavy rainfall may have contributed to the incident.
There were two occupants in each vehicle, with one woman sustaining serious injuries. She was airlifted to Royal Columbian Hospital in New Westminster for treatment.
The highway, closed between Nelson and Oliver streets for several hours, reopened in both directions around 6 p.m. PT, according to DriveBC.
The Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service is investigating the crash. Authorities are urging drivers to exercise caution on wet roads and adjust their speed to account for adverse weather conditions.
