A section of the seawall in Vancouver’s Stanley Park, from Prospect Point to Third Beach, is closed from Nov. 4 to Dec. 6 for hazardous tree removal and slope safety work, according to the Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation. This closure, impacting 1.5 kilometers of the park’s 10-kilometer seawall, is part of ongoing efforts to address tree damage caused by the hemlock looper moth infestation.

The park board announced that helicopters will assist by airlifting felled wood from steep areas between Nov. 14 and Dec. 7, while Stanley Park Drive will experience intermittent closures. Detours are in place, and Prospect Point’s parking lot will be temporarily closed. The board aims to reduce future disruptions and enhance visitor safety through these proactive measures.

Since October 2023, thousands of trees have been removed due to wildfire risks and tree mortality in Stanley Park, though some park-goers have expressed opposition and taken legal action against the cutting.
