A serious vehicle crash early Friday has closed a significant portion of Lougheed Highway in Maple Ridge, B.C., causing major traffic disruptions and a police investigation.

According to Ridge Meadows RCMP, all eastbound lanes of the highway are shut down between 287th Street and Jim Robson Way, while one westbound lane is also closed. Nearby 240th Street is entirely closed from River Road to Hill Avenue.

B.C. Emergency Health Services said the crash occurred around 3 a.m. PT at the intersection of Lougheed Highway and 240th Street. Two ambulances and several paramedics responded to the scene, but no one was transported to hospital.

The RCMP described it as a “serious motor vehicle incident” but have not yet released further details. Photos from the site show a badly damaged vehicle, with only the rear section still intact and the car tilted upward at a sharp angle.

By 5 a.m., police had set up a perimeter and were continuing their investigation.

“The Ridge Meadows RCMP is requesting patience this morning and asking commuters to plan an alternative route,” officials said in a public statement.

Traffic delays are expected through the morning commute. DriveBC is providing updates as they become available.
