A Richmond teacher has been suspended for two weeks after two students found nude and sexual images he had posted publicly to Reddit.
According to a discipline report from British Columbia’s Commissioner for Teacher Regulation, two Grade 11 students discovered Jimmy Ho’s Reddit profile around Sept. 15, 2023.
The students reported what they found to other staff members because they believed the material was inappropriate.
The report says knowledge of the account then “quickly spread” throughout the school community.
Teacher Admitted Posting Nude and Sexual Images
Ho admitted that his Reddit profile contained nude photographs of himself as well as images depicting him engaged in sexual acts.
The account also included clothed photographs connected to his work and school activities.
According to the regulator, one of those photographs was taken at the school itself.
That combination was a key concern for the Commissioner for Teacher Regulation because the publicly accessible profile linked explicit personal content with images identifying Ho in his professional role.
Regulator Says Conduct Harmed Profession’s Reputation
The commissioner concluded that making the sexual images publicly available was inconsistent with professional standards expected of teachers.
The decision said Ho failed to “maintain the integrity, credibility and reputation of the teaching profession.”
Ho has been on leave since Sept. 17, 2023, shortly after the students reported the account.
Nearly three years later, the regulator imposed a two-week suspension of his teaching certificate.
The suspension is scheduled to run from Oct. 25 to Nov. 7.
Ho Agrees to Discipline
The matter was resolved through a consent resolution agreement.
Ho accepted the two-week suspension and admitted the conduct outlined in the agreement.
He also agreed not to make any oral or written statements contradicting, disputing or calling into question either the terms of the resolution or the admissions contained in it.
The disciplinary decision does not indicate that criminal charges were involved.
The case instead centred on whether Ho’s publicly accessible online activity met the professional standards required of a certified teacher in British Columbia.
