Remaining Boston Bar Residents Ordered to Leave Immediately as New Fast-Moving Fire Grows

Residents who remain in Boston Bar, B.C., are being ordered to leave immediately as a new fast-moving wildfire burns south of the community.
The Fraser Valley Regional District issued an urgent alert Tuesday evening, warning that anyone still in Boston Bar is in danger.
“You are in danger and need to evacuate now,” the district said. “For your safety, residents who have remained in the community must leave now.”
Boston Bar has been under an evacuation order since last Thursday, but officials say some residents chose to stay behind.
It is not clear how many people remained in the community despite the order.
New Fire Triples in Size
The new wildfire ignited south of Boston Bar and more than tripled in size Tuesday evening because of strong winds.
As of 10 p.m. Tuesday, the fire was estimated at about 1,000 hectares, or 10 square kilometres.
Earlier in the evening, it was estimated at about 300 hectares, or 3 square kilometres.
The B.C. Wildfire Service has classified the fire as out of control, meaning it is spreading or expected to spread.
The wildfire service told Peazzi the new fire is a spot fire from the Brunswick Creek wildfire.
More Evacuation Orders Issued
Several additional properties were placed under evacuation order Tuesday evening.
Those include properties in and around Hell’s Gate and along Scuzzy Creek Forest Service Road, south of Boston Bar.
Last week, the Brunswick Creek wildfire complex prompted evacuation orders for about 450 properties in the area.
That complex includes the Brunswick Creek and Ainslie Creek wildfires, which have been burning since early July.
Highway 1 Closed in Both Directions
The new wildfire has forced the closure of Highway 1 in both directions.
The closure stretches from three kilometres south of Jackass Mountain Summit to 22 kilometres north of Yale.
Officials say Highway 5 is being used as an alternate route.
Residents evacuating from Boston Bar must travel northbound on Highway 1.
Reception Centre Opened in Kamloops
The Fraser Valley Regional District has opened an evacuee reception centre in Kamloops.
The centre is located at the McArthur Island Sports Centre at 1665 Island Parkway.
Boston Bar is located in B.C.’s Fraser Canyon, about 140 kilometres northeast of Vancouver as the crow flies.
