Police Seek Former NHL Enforcer Link Gaetz After Alleged Taxi Driver Assault

Police in British Columbia are asking for the public’s help locating former NHL player Link Gaetz, who is facing charges after an alleged assault on a taxi driver in Metro Vancouver.
Gaetz, 57, has been charged with assault and mischief under $5,000 in connection with an incident involving a taxi driver in Maple Ridge on September 17, 2025.
RCMP say Gaetz remains at large and has an outstanding warrant for his arrest.
Taxi Driver Allegedly Attacked
According to police, the incident began after Gaetz was picked up by a taxi driver in Maple Ridge.
Mounties allege Gaetz abruptly told the driver to stop, then punched the driver repeatedly in the face. Police say he also tried to break the vehicle’s security camera before breaking the windshield and fleeing the scene.
Investigators have described the alleged attack as unprovoked.
Police Ask Public for Help
RCMP say Gaetz lives in Mission, in B.C.’s Fraser Valley.
Police describe him as six feet four inches tall and 252 pounds, with blond hair and blue eyes. Authorities are asking anyone with information about his whereabouts to contact police.
Former NHL Player Known for Physical Play
Gaetz, a Vancouver native, was drafted in the second round of the 1988 NHL Draft by the Minnesota North Stars, now the Dallas Stars.
He played 65 NHL games over three seasons with Minnesota and the San Jose Sharks.
During his NHL career, he recorded six goals, eight assists and 412 penalty minutes, becoming known for his physical style of play.
