Vancouver police say they have completed their investigation into the death of an eight-year-old girl who fell from a high-rise balcony last month, concluding that no crime occurred.
According to a statement from Sgt. Steve Addison, the fall on Nov. 11 has been determined to be “a tragic accident.”
“Vancouver Police extends its condolences to the child’s family, friends, and everyone impacted by this horrible tragedy,” the statement said.
Emergency crews were called to a residential tower near Nelson Street and Expo Boulevard around 2:30 p.m. on Nov. 11. Despite efforts from first responders, the child was pronounced dead at the scene.
The girl attended school in Squamish, where her death has deeply affected the community. More than 150 people gathered last month for her funeral, mourning a child described as gentle, creative and deeply loved by her family, classmates and teachers.
With the investigation now closed, police say they will not be releasing further details out of respect for the family’s privacy.
