New Evacuation Orders and Alerts Issued as Wildfires Spread Across B.C.

New evacuation orders and alerts have been issued across British Columbia as separate out-of-control wildfires continue to threaten communities throughout the province.
The latest evacuation order was issued overnight by the Squamish-Lillooet Regional District because of the risk posed by a wildfire in the South Chilcotin Mountains area of Electoral Area A.
Shortly after 1 a.m. PT, the regional district also issued an evacuation alert for the area surrounding Texas Creek, south of Lillooet in Electoral Area B.
Clinton Area Faces Expanding Wildfire Threat
Earlier Wednesday evening, residents of the southern Interior village of Clinton and nearby communities were placed under a series of evacuation orders and alerts.
The wildfire threatening the area had grown to more than 100 square kilometres, prompting officials to warn residents to be prepared to leave or evacuate immediately, depending on their location.
Elsewhere in southeastern British Columbia, the entire city of Kimberley remains under an evacuation alert because of a nearby complex of fires.
An evacuation alert does not require residents to leave immediately, but it warns them to prepare for a possible evacuation order if conditions deteriorate.
Boston Bar Residents Urged to Leave
Authorities in Boston Bar have also urged residents who remained behind to leave the Fraser Canyon community as wildfires continue to burn around the area.
Officials have warned that the nearby fires now surround the community, increasing the danger for residents who have not yet evacuated.
The fires threatening Boston Bar, Clinton, Kimberley and the Squamish-Lillooet region are among more than 80 active wildfires burning across British Columbia.
Heat and Dry Conditions Raise Fire Risk
The B.C. Wildfire Service is warning that hot weather and limited precipitation are expected to continue throughout the week.
Those conditions could increase the likelihood of new wildfire starts while making it more difficult to contain existing fires.
Smoke is also expected to remain across several areas of the province. The wildfire service says conditions could worsen in northeastern and central British Columbia as smoke from active fires continues to spread.
Residents in affected areas are being urged to closely follow evacuation orders, alerts and instructions issued by local authorities as wildfire conditions continue to change.
