More Than 500 Properties Under Evacuation Alert as Wildfire Burns North of West Kelowna

More than 500 properties north of West Kelowna are under evacuation alert as crews battle a newly discovered out-of-control wildfire near the La Casa community.
Central Okanagan Emergency Management said the alert affects more than 1,100 residents and visitors on the west side of Okanagan Lake.
The affected area includes La Casa Lakeside Resort and La Casa Cottages, a popular vacation destination in the Central Okanagan.
People under the alert are being advised to prepare to leave at a moment’s notice and to be ready to remain away from the area for an extended period.
Fire Grew to More Than Five Hectares
The B.C. Wildfire Service said the fire, identified as K51214, was discovered at approximately 4 p.m. Saturday.
By Saturday evening, it had grown to an estimated 5.18 hectares, equivalent to roughly 0.05 square kilometres.
The wildfire remains classified as out of control.
Fourteen firefighters are responding alongside the North Westside Fire Department, with multiple aircraft supporting suppression efforts.
Aircraft Drawing Water From Okanagan Lake
Skimmer planes and helicopters are drawing water from Okanagan Lake to attack the flames.
The wildfire service is asking boaters to remain clear of areas where aircraft are operating to avoid interfering with crews and aerial suppression efforts.
Firefighters have observed Rank 2 and Rank 3 fire behaviour.
Those classifications indicate the fire is burning primarily along the surface with visible open flames and spreading at a slow to moderate rate.
Residents and visitors in the La Casa area are being urged to monitor official emergency updates and remain prepared in case the evacuation alert is upgraded to an order.
