A man has been killed in a shooting in Abbotsford’s Townline Hill neighbourhood, prompting a homicide investigation and a major police response Monday morning.
The Abbotsford Police Department (APD) said officers were called to the area of Ridgeview and Summit drives just before 9:30 a.m., where they found a man suffering from gunshot wounds. The victim was later pronounced dead.
As officers secured the area, three nearby schools were briefly placed under a shelter-in-place protocol. Police say that measure was taken strictly out of caution, and that no students or staff were harmed or directly threatened.
“A significant police presence will remain in the area throughout the day supporting the ongoing investigation,” the APD said in a statement on social media.
A police spokesperson later confirmed that investigators are treating the incident as a homicide.
Authorities have not yet released the victim’s identity or information on possible suspects.
Residents are being asked to avoid the area while police canvass for witnesses and video footage. The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) is expected to take over the case.
