A 45-year-old man has been charged with first-degree murder more than eight years after a Delta man was found dead in a rural area of Pitt Meadows, B.C.
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team announced Tuesday that charges had been laid in the death of 43-year-old Ian Roberts.
Roberts’ body was discovered on April 30, 2018, along Hale Road in an agricultural area of Pitt Meadows.
Suspect Faces Two Charges
Miikael Tattoo King, formerly known as Michael Branden Anderson, has been charged with one count of first-degree murder and one count of obstruction of justice in connection with Roberts’ death.
The allegations have not been proven in court.
IHIT said investigators believe Roberts and King knew each other and that the killing was targeted.
Police have not disclosed the evidence that led to the charges or provided further details about the alleged obstruction of justice.
Body Discovered by Passerby
At the time of Roberts’ death, investigators said Ridge Meadows RCMP received a 911 call from a passerby who had found a body on Hale Road.
Police identified the victim as Roberts and transferred the investigation to IHIT.
Several hours before his body was discovered, Langley RCMP recovered a red 1996 GMC Jimmy associated with Roberts.
The vehicle was found about 20 kilometres south of the location where his body was later discovered.
Cause of Death Not Released
Police have not publicly disclosed Roberts’ cause of death.
IHIT said it would not release additional information about the investigation now that the case is before the courts.
The charges mark a major development in a homicide investigation that remained unresolved for more than eight years.
