A man previously sentenced for driving a car into the ocean during a livestream stunt is now facing a dangerous driving charge in connection with an unrelated crash in New Westminster, B.C.
Jawad Mazen Fawwaz, 21, has been charged after police say a black Mercedes SUV was travelling at high speed with several people inside before it flipped into hedges and landed on its roof.
The crash happened around 11 p.m. on March 30, 2026, at the intersection of Sixth Avenue and McBride Boulevard.
Police allege Fawwaz was driving the vehicle.
Police Say Serious Injuries Were Avoided
The New Westminster Police Department said no one inside the SUV suffered serious injuries.
Police also said the occupant of a second vehicle damaged in the crash was not seriously injured.
Sgt. Andrew Leaver said the outcome could have been far worse.
“Luck is the only reason we're not talking about fatalities in this investigation,” Leaver said in an email to Peazzi.
The dangerous driving charge has not been proven in court.
Previous Livestream Stunt in Port Moody
Fawwaz was previously involved in a separate incident in March 2024, when he drove his car into the ocean near Rocky Point in Port Moody during a livestream hosted by internet personality Adin Ross.
Police said at the time that Fawwaz had been promised financial compensation for the stunt.
In November 2024, he pleaded guilty to one count of mischief under $5,000.
He was granted a conditional discharge, fined $100 and placed on 12 months of probation.
Court Appearance Scheduled
As part of the Port Moody case, Fawwaz was also ordered to pay nearly $3,000 in restitution to the City of Port Moody and complete 30 hours of community service.
He is scheduled to appear in court on July 8 to set a trial date in the New Westminster case.
