Kamloops RCMP are investigating what police say is the city’s third homicide of the year after a fatal shooting early Tuesday morning on Columbia Street. Officers were called to the 200 block of Columbia Street, across from Royal Inland Hospital, after reports of gunfire. Police have since confirmed the case is being treated as a homicide.

Investigators say the evidence currently available points to a targeted attack. RCMP have not released further details about the victim or the circumstances of the shooting, saying they are still working through the investigation and communicating with the victim’s family.

Police seeking witnesses and dashcam footage

RCMP are asking anyone who was in the area between 1 a.m. and 3 a.m. on May 5 to contact police. Investigators say Columbia Street is one of Kamloops’ main travel corridors and are hoping witnesses, nearby residents or drivers may have dashcam footage that could help clarify what happened.

Police have not said whether they are looking for a suspect or suspects, and no arrests have been announced.

Third homicide in Kamloops this year

The killing marks Kamloops’ third homicide of 2026. Earlier this year, Emmanual “Manny” Brooks was shot on March 11 and later died from his injuries. On Jan. 5, Muhammad “Ash” Zafar was found dead in his home. As of the latest reporting, no charges had been laid in any of the three homicide cases.

With Tuesday’s shooting now under investigation, police are again appealing to the public for information as they work to determine exactly what happened on one of the city’s busiest streets.
