Investigation Underway After Fire Breaks Out at Vancouver’s Plaza of Nations

An investigation is underway after a fire broke out on the exterior of Vancouver’s Plaza of Nations building Monday evening.
Photos and videos showing smoke rising from the prominent waterfront structure began circulating on social media at around 7:40 p.m. PT.
The building is located along the False Creek seawall, making the fire highly visible to residents and visitors in the surrounding area.
Firefighters Quickly Brought Blaze Under Control
Ryan Cameron, an acting assistant fire chief with Vancouver Fire Rescue Services, said crews were able to quickly get water onto the fire after arriving at the scene.
Speaking shortly after 8:10 p.m. PT, Cameron said firefighters were continuing to inspect the building while investigators worked to determine what caused the blaze.
“We've got crews inside looking and the fire investigator's on scene looking for the cause right now,” Cameron said.
He confirmed that no one was inside the structure when the fire occurred.
Multiple Fire Units Responded
Vancouver Fire Rescue Services deployed five heavy apparatuses to the scene along with an airline support unit.
Crews continued checking the interior of the building after the exterior fire had been brought under control.
No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire had not been determined as of Monday evening, with the investigation continuing at the scene.
Because of the Plaza of Nations’ location beside the seawall and False Creek, the smoke was visible from numerous surrounding neighbourhoods and waterfront areas.
