A homicide investigation is underway in Surrey after a man was shot and killed in what police are describing as a targeted and serious incident.
Officers with the Surrey Police Service responded to reports of gunfire in the 15100 block of 60 Avenue at approximately 6:40 p.m. on Saturday evening.
When officers arrived at the scene, they located a man suffering from gunshot wounds. Emergency responders, including paramedics, attempted to provide life-saving treatment, but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Given the severity of the incident, the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) was called in and has now assumed conduct of the investigation.
Investigation Underway
IHIT investigators will work in close coordination with Surrey Police Service officers as they gather evidence, canvass the area, and seek to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
Authorities have not yet released details about the victim’s identity, a potential motive, or whether any suspects have been identified.
Police are expected to examine surveillance footage, witness statements, and forensic evidence as part of the ongoing investigation.
Appeal for Public Assistance
Investigators are urging anyone with information about the shooting to come forward.
Witnesses who may have been in the area at the time, or who may have dashcam footage or other relevant evidence, are being asked to contact IHIT’s information line.
Officials say even small details could prove critical in advancing the case.
Community Impact
The fatal shooting adds to ongoing concerns about violent incidents in parts of Metro Vancouver, where police continue to focus on reducing gun violence and improving public safety.
While it remains unclear whether this incident is connected to broader trends or targeted activity, investigators say they are committed to determining what led to the deadly encounter.
More details are expected to be released as the investigation progresses.
