Hit Man Who Killed Former Air India Suspect Sentenced to 15 Years in Separate Abbotsford Homicide

A hit man already serving a life sentence for the murder of a former Air India bombing suspect has been sentenced to another 15 years in prison for an unrelated killing in Abbotsford.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team said 25-year-old Tanner Fox was sentenced Wednesday for the manslaughter of 41-year-old Chad Colivas.

Colivas was found suffering from gunshot wounds at his Abbotsford home on March 21, 2022. He later died from his injuries.

Victim Confronted Intruder Inside His Home

IHIT spokesperson Freda Fong said Colivas was unarmed when he confronted Fox, who had broken into the residence.

Investigators said the killing was not connected to gang activity.

Fox was arrested in 2023 alongside 30-year-old Laetitia Acera. Acera pleaded guilty to break and enter and received a four-year prison sentence followed by two years of probation.

Fox pleaded guilty in April to manslaughter with a firearm.

The killing occurred less than four months before Fox carried out another fatal shooting that would ultimately result in a life sentence.

Fox Later Killed Ripudaman Singh Malik

On July 14, 2022, Fox shot and killed Ripudaman Singh Malik inside Malik’s Tesla at a business park in Surrey.

Malik had previously been charged in connection with the 1985 Air India bombing but was acquitted.

Fox and an accomplice later pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in Malik’s death.

Fox was sentenced last year to life in prison with no possibility of parole for 20 years.

During sentencing, his lawyer told the court that Fox had been adopted by Canadian parents from Thailand when he was three years old.

Fox told the court he had been “young and dumb” when he participated in the hired killing.

Person Behind Contract Killing Remains Unknown

Police and prosecutors have not publicly identified who they believe hired Fox and his accomplice to kill Malik.

The additional 15-year sentence relates solely to Colivas’s death and stems from a separate incident with no identified connection to the Malik assassination.
