Former Vancouver Band Teacher Banned From Teaching for Life After Sexual Assault Conviction

A former Vancouver high school band teacher has been banned from teaching for life after pleading guilty to sexually assaulting a student.
Robert Kyle Ledingham will not be permitted to reapply for a teaching certificate in British Columbia, according to a consent agreement issued by the B.C. Commissioner for Teacher Regulation.
Ledingham had been a certified teacher in the province since May 2008.
Allegations Involved Student Volunteering at School
Ledingham was initially charged in September 2020 with two counts of sexual exploitation and one count of sexual assault.
According to the consent agreement, the allegations involved a student who was volunteering at a high school within the Vancouver School District where Ledingham taught band.
The conduct occurred between April and June 2019.
The student attended a different high school from the one where Ledingham worked and cannot be identified because of a court-ordered publication ban.
Guilty Plea Entered in 2024
In May 2024, Ledingham pleaded guilty to one count of sexual assault.
The remaining charges were stayed, according to the agreement.
He received a 15-month conditional sentence order.
One of the conditions prohibited him from seeking employment in any position that would place him in a position of authority over someone under the age of 18.
The Vancouver School District subsequently terminated Ledingham’s employment in November 2024.
Lifetime Ban From Teaching
As part of the consent agreement with the teacher regulator, Ledingham acknowledged that his conduct amounted to professional misconduct.
He agreed that he will never apply for another teaching certificate in British Columbia.
The agreement effectively imposes a lifetime prohibition on Ledingham returning to the teaching profession in the province.
