A former B.C. correctional officer has turned herself in to police after a warrant was issued for her arrest last month.

Naila Sheikh, who previously worked at the North Fraser Pretrial Centre in Port Coquitlam, turned herself in on Monday.

She has since been released on conditions and is expected to make her first court appearance on July 9.

Sheikh is facing charges of breach of trust, personation with intent to gain advantage and unauthorized use of a computer. The charges stem from alleged incidents that occurred between February and March 2024.

Documents Link Former Officer to Escaped Murderer’s Case File

Documents obtained by Peazzi appear to show that Sheikh was assigned as the case manager for convicted gang murderer Rabih Alkhalil at the time of his escape from the North Fraser Pretrial Centre in July 2022.

However, it remains unclear whether the current charges against Sheikh are directly connected to Alkhalil’s escape.

The investigation was led by the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit of British Columbia, the province’s anti-gang policing agency.

Sgt. Sarbjit K. Sangha, a media relations officer for CFSEU-BC, said allegations involving a breach of trust are taken seriously.

Alkhalil Arrested After Three-Year Search

Alkhalil was arrested in Qatar in September 2025 after a three-year search.

Several alleged accomplices accused of helping him escape were also charged and later arrested or extradited.

His escape triggered major scrutiny of correctional security procedures in B.C.

Province Calls Charges Concerning

Public Safety and Solicitor General Nina Krieger said the charges against Sheikh are deeply concerning.

However, she said the majority of B.C.’s more than 1,300 correctional officers serve with professionalism, integrity and dedication.

B.C. Corrections has launched reviews aimed at strengthening security guidelines and has completed its internal investigation into Alkhalil’s escape.

Second Former Corrections Employee Charged Within a Year

Sheikh is the second former B.C. corrections employee to face charges within the past year.

Former correctional employee Ramandeep Rai recently received a two-year conditional sentence for a breach of trust charge that was not connected to Alkhalil’s prison break.

The allegations against Sheikh have not been proven in court.
