A fatal house fire in Sooke early Monday morning has left one person dead and another seriously injured, according to authorities.

Police from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police responded to the blaze shortly after 5:20 a.m. in the Rhodonite Drive area, where emergency crews found two people inside a single-family home.

One fatality, one hospitalized

Emergency responders pronounced one individual dead at the scene.

A second person was transported to hospital with serious injuries.
