Police in Surrey, B.C., arrested a man driving a stolen white Ford pickup truck that failed to stop at the Pacific Highway border crossing on Sunday morning.

According to the Surrey Police Service (SPS), the vehicle, flagged by the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), bypassed inspection at the crossing around 8:45 a.m. PT.

Shortly after, the truck was spotted on King George Boulevard, where it was seen driving erratically and crossing into oncoming traffic.

Quick Arrest

SPS and RCMP officers quickly responded, arresting the 33-year-old suspect within 14 minutes of the border breach.

The truck, reported stolen from Blaine, Washington, was recovered, and no injuries were reported, though multiple vehicles sustained damage during the incident.

Suspect Details

Police confirmed the suspect was alone in the truck and had no legal status in Canada. The suspect remains in custody and will be handed over to the CBSA for further investigation in collaboration with U.S. law enforcement partners.

SPS media liaison officer Ian MacDonald noted that while border breaches involving vehicles are uncommon, attempts to cross by foot are more frequent.

CBSA Statement

In a statement, the CBSA emphasized that failing to stop for inspection is a serious offence that can result in significant penalties or charges.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing, and police have not released the suspect’s name.

Call for Information

Authorities are urging anyone with information or video footage of the incident to contact the Surrey Police Service or Crime Stoppers.

Further details are awaited as the CBSA and U.S. Customs and Border Protection continue their inquiries.
