Travellers in southwest British Columbia are being urged to exercise caution as dense fog blankets parts of the region, reducing visibility to near zero in some areas.

Environment Canada has issued a fog advisory for Vancouver, Burnaby, New Westminster, and other parts of Metro Vancouver. The advisory also extends to the Southern Gulf Islands, east and inland Vancouver Island, and the Sunshine Coast.

The fog, which developed overnight, is expected to lift by late Wednesday morning, but areas near the water may experience lingering effects through the afternoon.

"Visibility may be significantly and suddenly reduced to near zero," warned Environment Canada. "Travel could be hazardous under these conditions."

Drivers are advised to turn on their headlights and maintain a safe following distance to mitigate risks posed by the foggy weather.

This marks the second day of fog-related warnings, as a similar advisory was in place for much of Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley on Tuesday morning before conditions improved later in the day.

Travellers are encouraged to check for updates and remain vigilant, particularly in low-lying areas where fog may be more persistent.
