Police and community members in Prince George are continuing the search for Kira Margaret Louise Hammerstrom, a young woman who has not been heard from since May 13. Prince George RCMP say she was last seen around 8:30 p.m. on the 2100 block of Upland Street, and her family remains deeply concerned because the lack of contact is unusual for her.

RCMP have described Hammerstrom as 23 years old, five feet tall, about 90 pounds, with sandy-coloured hair and green eyes. Police say she was last seen wearing pink leggings, a white hoodie and black shoes.

Search efforts widened after items were found

Investigators say the search expanded after items believed to belong to Hammerstrom were found near Hudson’s Bay Slough, an area that has since become a focus for follow-up work. RCMP say they are continuing to examine leads connected to those findings, though they have not yet led officers to Hammerstrom.

Police have also said their Serious Crime Unit has remained involved in the case and worked through the weekend to gather information that might help locate her.

Community volunteers organizing their own search

Alongside the police investigation, family, friends and volunteers have launched a community-led search effort in Prince George. Organizers have been co-ordinating poster campaigns, search walks, vehicle searches and boat trips along local waterways in hopes of finding new clues.

The scale of the public response reflects how widely Hammerstrom is known and how urgently those close to her want answers. Her relatives have described the search as one of the most upsetting experiences of their lives and say they are prepared to keep expanding efforts if needed.

Police release more clothing details

RCMP have also released updated surveillance images from the morning of May 13 to help the public identify Hammerstrom. In those images, she appears to be wearing a black short-sleeved T-shirt, grey sweatpants and black flip-flops, along with mismatched socks and a black crossbody bag with a green toy attached. Investigators believe she changed clothes later that day before she was last seen that evening.

Police are asking anyone who may have seen Hammerstrom or who has information about her whereabouts to contact Prince George RCMP or Northern B.C. Crime Stoppers immediately.
