Squamish RCMP say the bodies of two paddleboarders who fell into Browning Lake in B.C.’s Sea-to-Sky region have been recovered following a multi-agency search.

Police said they first received reports at around 3 p.m. on Saturday that two paddleboarders had fallen into the lake. Browning Lake is located within Murrin Provincial Park, a popular outdoor area between Vancouver and Squamish.

The victims have since been identified by family as Genesis Jeru Bague and Mariz Bello, a recently married couple originally from the Philippines.

Search Involved Multiple Agencies

After the initial report, several agencies joined the search effort, including Squamish Search and Rescue and RCMP helicopters.

The search continued over several days before RCMP divers located the bodies of the two missing paddleboarders on Tuesday. Police said both bodies were then recovered.

The incident has drawn sadness from relatives and members of the community who knew the couple.

Family Remembers Couple’s Love for the Outdoors

Genesis Hanzel Bague, the brother of Genesis Jeru Bague, previously said his brother had hoped to become a police officer in B.C.

He described the couple as people who loved spending time outdoors, including hiking and camping.

Bague said he wanted to share their story so that friends and family would understand their deaths were the result of an accident.

Investigation Continues

Police have not released further details about the circumstances that led to the couple falling into the lake.

The recovery brings an end to the search operation, but the deaths remain a heartbreaking loss for the couple’s family, friends and wider community.
