Court documents reveal that Mitchell McIntyre, a B.C. man who repeatedly confessed to killing two people, was not arrested until more than a month after his initial admission. McIntyre was eventually charged with second-degree murder in the shooting death of Julia Howe on February 6, 2022, in Creston, B.C.
After Howe's death, McIntyre approached RCMP, requesting to be detained, but was instead admitted to a hospital under the Mental Health Act. Over the following month, McIntyre continued to confess to doctors and police that he had killed Howe and a man he referred to as “David Creamly.” Despite his confessions, McIntyre was not arrested until March 16, by which point another victim, David Creamer, had already been cremated and his possessions removed after his death was ruled an accidental fall.
The case, now in trial by judge alone, has raised questions about the delays in police action and the handling of McIntyre’s admissions by medical professionals.
