A British Columbia man wanted on multiple warrants in Surrey has been arrested in the Northwest Territories and charged with drug trafficking offences.
Iqbal Singh Dulay, 33, was arrested in Inuvik on Oct. 3 and has been charged with trafficking cocaine and possessing property valued at more than $5,000 obtained by crime.
Inuvik RCMP said the arrest followed searches at two locations in the community.
Police Search Two Inuvik Properties
RCMP said officers executed search warrants at properties on Bompas Street and Bonnetplume Road.
At the Bompas Street location, police said they seized approximately $5,000 in cash, a firearm and drug-related paraphernalia.
At the second location, officers said they found about $1,000 in cash along with additional paraphernalia associated with drug trafficking.
Police said the investigation remains ongoing and additional charges could be laid.
The allegations against Dulay in the Northwest Territories have not been proven in court.
Outstanding Warrants in Surrey
RCMP also confirmed Dulay is wanted in Surrey, B.C.
Sgt. Lindsey Houghton of the Surrey Police Service said Dulay is the subject of warrants related to several alleged offences.
Those include assault causing bodily harm, assault by choking, assault with a weapon, forcible imprisonment or confinement, uttering threats and failing to comply with probation.
“Dulay has a lengthy criminal history for violent and other offences,” Houghton said.
Dulay has not been convicted of any of the current charges in Surrey or Inuvik.
Previous Convictions Date Back More Than a Decade
B.C. court records show Dulay has previous convictions dating back to at least 2013.
Those convictions include offences involving assaults, uttering threats and breaches of court orders, among others.
The outstanding Surrey allegations are separate from those earlier convictions.
N.W.T. Case to Be Addressed First
Court records indicate Dulay’s next appearance is scheduled for Oct. 13 in Yellowknife.
N.W.T. RCMP spokesperson Julie Plourde said Dulay is expected to remain in the territory while the charges there are dealt with.
“If he is released from custody or at the conclusion of the N.W.T. matters, RCMP will liaise with the police of jurisdiction holding his warrant to determine if he will be returned to B.C. on those matters, and under what judicial process,” Plourde said.
Police in both jurisdictions are continuing to deal with the separate cases, while the Inuvik drug investigation remains active.
