New Area Code to Be Introduced in B.C. Starting May 2025

British Columbia is set to receive a new area code in response to the growing demand for phone numbers across the province. The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) has announced that area code 257 will be introduced on May 24, 2025.

This will be B.C.'s sixth active area code, joining the existing codes of 604, 250, 778, 236, and 672. Individuals and businesses requesting new phone numbers after May 24 may be assigned a number with the new 257 area code.

The introduction of the new code is part of ongoing efforts to accommodate the province’s increasing need for phone numbers.
