British Columbia is bracing for another wave of severe weather, with Environment Canada issuing rainfall, wind and snowfall warnings across much of the province.
The latest system follows more than a week of intense weather that triggered flooding in the Fraser Valley and left tens of thousands without power across the South Coast.
For Thursday, forecasters are warning of significant impacts in several regions:
Up to 70 millimetres of rain is expected in Metro Vancouver and the Howe Sound region.
Strong winds in Greater Victoria and parts of the Fraser Valley could bring gusts reaching 90 km/h.
Snowfall totals of up to 15 centimetres are forecast in and around Whistler.
Up to 10 centimetres of snow could fall along the Central Coast.
Snow squalls are expected near Prince George and across parts of the Peace Region.
The renewed storm threat comes just one day after a powerful windstorm knocked out electricity for roughly 120,000 B.C. Hydro customers at its peak, adding strain to already stretched repair crews.
The Fraser Valley remains particularly vulnerable. While flooding has eased in many areas, parts of Chilliwack are still under flood warning, meaning river levels have exceeded or are expected to exceed their banks, posing a continued risk to nearby properties.
In Abbotsford, officials lifted all remaining evacuation alerts affecting roughly 500 properties on Wednesday. The final evacuation order, which applied to 11 properties, was downgraded to an alert as conditions improved.
Officials are urging residents to remain cautious, secure loose objects ahead of strong winds, avoid riverbanks and flooded areas, and monitor travel conditions as weather-related disruptions remain possible through the end of the week.
