80-Year-Old Cyclist Killed in Chilliwack Hit-and-Run, Suspect Vehicle Seized Short Summary

An 80-year-old cyclist has died after being struck by a vehicle that fled the scene of a collision in Chilliwack, B.C., on Saturday evening.
Chilliwack RCMP said the woman was cycling near the intersection of Portage Avenue and Woodbine Street at approximately 6 p.m. PT when she was hit.
She suffered critical injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police Locate and Seize Suspect Truck
Investigators later identified and seized a vehicle believed to have been involved in the collision.
Police described it as a burgundy or red 2021 Chevrolet Silverado crew cab pickup truck.
A man was also arrested in connection with the investigation.
RCMP said he was later released while investigators continue gathering evidence and determining the circumstances surrounding the collision.
Police have not announced any charges.
Collision Investigators Called In
The B.C. Coroners Service is assisting with the investigation into the woman’s death.
The Lower Mainland Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service, known as ICARS, has also been brought in to examine the collision.
The specialized team investigates serious and fatal crashes and can analyze evidence from the scene to help reconstruct how a collision occurred.
Police said alcohol and drugs are not currently believed to have been contributing factors.
RCMP Seeking Dashcam and Surveillance Footage
Investigators are asking residents, businesses and drivers who may have captured the suspect truck on camera to review their footage.
Police are specifically seeking CCTV or dashcam video recorded around the time of the collision in the areas of Portage Avenue, Woodbine Street, Hazel Street, Menzies Street and Yale Road.

The investigation into the fatal hit-and-run remains ongoing.
